2014 Les Darons

les darons2014 Les Darons – 91-94 Points Wine Advocate

Grenache ~ Carignan ~ Syrah

“A wine that blew me away…thrilling notes of black and blue fruits, violets, and peppery spice to go with a medium to full-bodied, elegant, seamless profile on the palate…striking purity, integrated acidity and a great finish.  It should drink nicely on release and have 7-8 years of overall longevity.”

Jebb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate

Can Blau

UnknownCan Blau is produced from a blend of Samsó (Cariñena), Garnacha (Spanish Grenache), and Syrah. The wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 9 months and the end result is a gorgeous red that has complex aromatics or with ripe black fruits, licorice and spice. On the palate the wine is fresh, flavorful, big and fruity and it finishes with notable yet soft tannins. Another gem from Spain and the Juan Gil portfolio.

La Novella White Nebbiolo

This is by far one of the most interesting AND delicious whites I have ever tasted!  La Novella is made from Nebbiolo which is a red, sultry, intense grape that makes the famous RED wines of Barolo and Barbaresco.  To make this as a white wine, the grapes are picked early in the season before they mature but at a time when they have a nice acidic backbone and soft floral notes.  The color is only in the skins of the grapes so in order to make a white wine, the skins are removed immediately to maintain the white color.  This is one of those wines that not only tastes great but has a great story and is the perfect wine to makes friends with!

Cheers! Heather

2011 Breca Garnacha

91 Points – International Wine Cellar

92 Points – Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocat

Ripe blackberry and boysenberry aromas are complemented by deeper-pitched notes of mocha and licorice.  At once rich and lively, offering vibrant dark fruit preserve flavors and a kick of peppery spices.  Smooth with a seamless and persistent finish which leaves notes of blueberry and espresso behind.  A great example of old vine Garnacha!

2012 Filon Garnacha

I tasted this in Florida a few years back but at the time it was not available to us here in MA.  I was so thrilled to finally see it listed with one of the MA distributors a few months back.  Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar gave this wine 90 points and declared it “a ridiculous bang for the buck” and I agree.  On the palate the wine is velvety in texture and offers lively red fruit and floral flavors with a touch of bitter chocolate.  Closes with impressive clarity and energy, leaving juicy raspberry and floral notes.

Cono Sur Sparkling Brut

In January of 2003 I was invited to take part in a wine education trip to Chile.  On the trip we visited a brand new winery named Cono Sur.  It was what we would call a “start up” winery and after the tour and tasting, my colleagues and I knew this winery was going to make their mark on the Chilean wine industry.  At the time only a few of the wines were being distributed to the US.  Over the last 10 years it has been so much fun to watch their growth and to see the wines become a major brand in the United States.  The sparkling wines are RARE and I was thrilled to be able to get a case for Lees Wine and Spirits!  This Brut sparkler is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.  The wine is extremely elegant and delicate.  A fresh, balanced palate with a nice acid backbone.  Its is quickly becoming one of my favorites!
